Forgiveness is often misunderstood as a feeling or a transaction based on someone else’s apology. However, Jesus reveals to us that forgiveness is a response to the mercy we have already received from God. Because we have been forgiven an unpayable debt through the cross, we are called to release the debts others owe us.
